Walmart building 27 solar installations

Seeking to improve the efficiency of its super stores, Walmart has announced that it will be constructing solar projects at 27 of its Massachusetts locations.

The projects should generate up to 10.5 megawatts (MW) of electricity, meeting roughly 10%-15% of each store’s energy demand.

Last year Walmart unveiled plans to implement similar solar arrays on the majority of its California stores.

Other solar projects on a number of Colorado stores are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 2,000 tons annually.

The large, flat rooftops of its retail stores provide an excellent opportunity to take advantage of harnessing solar power.
